Xbox Play Anywhere allows you to play specific games you own on both Windows 10 and Xbox One with shared achievements, and the digital version of Gears of War 4 is the first announced game to use this feature.
Rod Ferguson, Co-creator and studio head of The Coalition revealed the program at Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference. In addition to receiving copies of Gears of War 4 at no extra cost on Xbox One and Windows 10, Gears of War 4 will support cross-play across the two platforms on the campaign, multiplayer, and new horde mode.
Phil Spencer said back in February that cross-buy would be a platform feature for Xbox One games. The first game to have this sort of feature was Remedy’s Quantum Break. Those that pre-ordered Quantum Break on Xbox One by a set date received a free copy of Quantum Break on PC with supported cross-saves.
