We’re later than normal because of a little thing called E3, but the Media Create chart results from Japan are certainly worth looking at. This week they bring great news for a popular franchise, Capcom and the New Nintendo 3DS.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice has made its bow on the retail scene in Japan and stormed to stop spot, falling just short of 200,000 sales. It was the only big-hitting new release (two other debut titles struggled) and therefore enjoyed a sizeable lead over the rest of the top 20. Results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.

That arrival gave the New 3DS LL (XL) a boost, too, helping it to climb from third to top spot in the hardware chart, with most other platforms declining compared to last week. The smaller New 3DS also had a minor boost – results are below with last week’s sales in brackets.
- New 3DS LL – 21,736 (12,286)
- PlayStation 4 – 19,573 (23,144)
- PlayStation Vita – 12,312 (13,980)
- Wii U – 3,901 (4,153)
- New 3DS – 3,029 (2,877)
- PlayStation 3 – 1,006 (1,028)
- 3DS – 602 (646)
- 3DS LL – 90 (100)
- Xbox One – 46 (59)
Though this entry in the Phoenix Wright series will be download-only in the West, these results provide some proof that the franchise still has a lot of appeal on the retail scene in Japan. It was a good week for both Capcom and Nintendo, as a result.
