Tencent Nears $9 Billion Deal to Buy Clash of Clans Dev

Chinese media conglomerate Tencent is looking to buy Clash of Clans developer Supercell Oy. The Wall Street Journal reports that the deal is valued at over $9 billion.

Apparently, an agreement could be announced next week, and if the deal happens, it would be Tencent’s largest yet. Supercell was valued at about $5.25 billion in 2015, according to someone close to the situation.

Clash of Clans and Clash Royale are both wildly popular mobile games. In fact, over 100 million people Clash of Clans every day, and in 2015, it was the second highest-grossing digital video game.

Tencent holds ownership in League of Legends developer Riot Games and Epic Games, and it recently announced a new console. It plays games like League of Legends, FIFA Online 3, and Monster Hunter Online, but it’s unclear if it will come to North America and Europe.
