It seems that the Xbox Live is expanding, as the Minecraft fans can now play with one another, no matter on what operating system they are playing the game.
Microsoft is now using its online service (also known as Xbox Live) to bring cross-platform play to Minecraft between Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows PC, Windows Phone, Android, iOS and Oculus-powered Gear VR headset.
It is good to know that this is currently in testing phase for anyone with an Xbox Live account and it will be officially released later this year. We have to say that this is the first time when the Minecraft gamers are able to play in multiplayer mode via various platforms. In other words, if you have a friend who plays Minecraft from his Xbox One console, you will be able to play with him from your Android or iOS handset.
Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, has already demonstrated that this can be done during Microsoft’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. During the Expo we were able to see how the Minecraft game can be played in multiplayer on the same server from an iOS, Gear VR and console, without any problems.
We remind you that Minecraft has over 100 million copies sold, which means that bringing cross-platform play will surely once again make even more fans to purchase the game. We have to agree that there aren’t many gamers who play games on consoles, as they are most of the time away from home, but thanks to powerful mobile devices, they are now able to play awesome games.
It is good to know that Mojang will introduce Realms for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android and iOS. This server-subscription program will allow the players to purchase their own server where they will be able to invite their friends. In addition, even if the owner of the server is not online, his/her friends will be able to join the server as it will be open 24/7.
