ARK: Survival of the Fittest, formerly a free standalone game, will now be brought back to be part of the main ARK: Survival Evolved game.
In a post on Steam this week, the developer did make clear that players who have played the game so far will continue to be able to do so without having to own ARK: Survival Evolved.
Going forward however, you will have to own the main game in order to play the additional content.
One of the reasons behind this is the release of the game’s Development Kit. The kit allows modders to take content from Survival Evolved and create new content for Survival of the Fittest, which raises problems when it comes to licensing.
