Disney has released a new trailer for its next major animated movie, Moana. Published during the Rio Olympics, this video shows off main characters Moana and Maui, and introduces a lava monster.
Moana takes place three thousand years ago. Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) meets up with the shape-shifting Maui (voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and together they sail the high seas as Moana attempts to become a "master wayfinder." You can of course expect the duo to encounter all kinds of monsters and other obstacles along the way, some of which are teased in the trailer.
The trailer spotlights some of Maui’s shape-shifting abilities, as we see him transform into an eagle at one point. Additionally, his tattoos come alive in some sequences. As for Moana, we see her at one point leaping into the air and chucking a spear at a foe not shown on screen.
Moana is directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the famous duo that also directed Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. It arrives in theaters on November 23–Thanksgiving Day.
In other news about Disney movies, Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Rogue One is getting a new trailer this Thursday, August 11, during the Rio Olympics.
