Look at These Early Harry Potter Sketches, Featuring Snape and McGonagall

J.K. Rowling has released a series of her own Harry Potter sketches that give fans a new look at the magical wizarding world in its early days. The illustrations include things like Snape teaching a potions class, Harry peering into the Mirror of Erised, and Professor McGonagall reprimanding Peeves.

These were published on Pottermore, but not in one post, but rather scattered throughout the site. You can see some of these in the tweet below from Harry Potter World UK, while Time discovered even more. If Rowling sketched these at the start of the Harry Potter series, it means they date back to the ’90s.

Rowling herself recently said that Harry Potter’s story is likely over after The Cursed Child, but clearly she’s not done sharing new insight into the franchise’s characters and locations.

In addition to these sketches, Rowling recently announced three new Harry Potter books, which will debut on September 6. These "bite-sized" books don’t continue Harry Potter’s story, but instead offer new insights into Harry Potter stories, settings, and characters.

The latest Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, is the script from the stage play of the same name. It sold four million physical copies in its first week.

Looking ahead, the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, comes to theaters in December. It stars Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne as main character Newt Scamander.
