Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition Will Come to Europe After All

Share.

UPDATE: Yes it is!

Update: Well, as it turns out, none of this is true anymore. In a press release today, Sega Europe announced that the retro bundle will indeed be coming to Amazon in the UK, Germany, France and Spain.

The move seems to be directly in response to fan requests that it makes the jump over the pond.

“We’ve been thrilled with the European fan excitement surrounding Sonic Mania,” said Sonic’s chief brand officer, Ivo Gerscovich. “While we weren’t able to announce the Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition simultaneously with North America, we are now pleased to announce it’s available for pre-order for Europe. Our fans across the world are important to us.”

The edition is available for pre-order now, and will be shipped come the game’s release in Q2 2017.

Original story: The Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition that set the Internet ablaze yesterday won’t be coming to Europe.

The confirmation comes via Eurogamer. Here’s the statement in full:

“The collector’s edition for Sonic Mania has been announced; to confirm this edition is only available in North America. There is no information regarding a pre-order incentive for Europe at this time.”

The $70 Collector’s Edition comes with a 12-inch old-school Sonic statue perched on top of an original Mega-drive/Genesis (which plays the shouting ‘SEGA!!!!!!!!!!’ start-up sound), as well as a cartridge-style case with a gold ring inside. Not that we wanted any of that anyway. *Stomps foot*

The Collect’s Edition that won’t be released in Europe.

All-in-all, Sonic Mania looks to be a Sonic game made by Sonic fans for other Sonic fans. One of the programmers on the project, Christian Whitehead, is the man responsible for the excellent Android and iOS ports of the original trilogy. The ones where Whitehead decided to code the spin-dash, Knuckles, and Tails into the first Sonic the Hedgehog, just because it’d make the game more enjoyable.

The guy even went as far as creating a finished version of Hidden Palace Zone in Sonic 2 – a beta zone that was originally cut and shifted into Sonic & Knuckles.

Sonic Mania is due for release in the second quarter of 2017. For more useless Sonic facts, stay tuned to IGN.
