CBS Orders Candy Crush Game Show

CBS has ordered a one-hour, live-action game show based on the mobile game Candy Crush Saga.

Candy Crush creator King is partnering with CBS and Lionsgate to produce the show developed by producer Matt Kunitz (The Real World, Fear Factor).

The game show will task teams of two with competing “on enormous, interactive game boards,” however no further details have been given about the show’s challenges. A host for the show will be announced at a later date.

“As a Candy Crush Saga player myself, I am excited to amp up the action and visuals in our huge Candy Crush Arena,” CBS president Glenn Geller said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

Earlier this year, Activision Blizzard successfully acquired King for $5.9 billion.

Candy Crush will be produced by Pulse Creative in association with Lionsgate Television, King Ltd. and CBS Television Studios. Sebastian Knutsson — King co-founder, Chief Creative Officer, and creator of Candy Crush Saga — will serve as one of the series’ executive producers.

Lionsgate has begun working on several other game-related projects recently, including the announcement of a Borderlands movie and an investment in Telltale Games to allow “the two companies to explore opportunities to co-develop existing and original IP into episodic games and television.”
