Resident Evil 7 has cross-save on PC and Xbox One – are we looking at the first third-party Xbox Play Anywhere title? – VG247

Resident Evil 7 might end up with cross-buy on PC and Xbox One. Cross your fingers.

Resident Evil 7 is going to have cross-save support on PC and Xbox One, Capcom has confirmed.

The news broke in Japanese Resident Evil 7 magazine feature last week and was later verified by IGN, speaking to Capcom’s western arm.

What Capcom wouldn’t say is whether Resident Evil 7 will have cross-buy on PC and Xbox One when it launches in January 2017 – without cross-buy, cross-save is a bit weird, isn’t it? It’s not like so many people will buy two copies of a triple-A game that the development pays for itself.

What really makes us wonder whether cross-buy is on the cards is Microsoft’s Play Anywhere scheme. Although Play Anywhere titles may support cross-save and cross-play, the core of the scheme is cross-buy: pick up Gears of War 4 or Sea of Thieves on PC, and you also own it on Xbox One, and vice versa.

Since cross-save is about as useful as a fart in a vacuum without cross-buy, and Capcom wouldn’t say “no” when IGN raised the question of cross-buy, it’s possible Microsoft and Capcom have teamed up to make Resident Evil 7 the first third-party Xbox Play Anywhere title.

This could go some way towards making up for all the love Capcom has shown PS4, as for example with Resident Evil 7’s VR mode and exclusive Kitchen demo.
