Darksiders Remaster Launches on Steam, Free for Owners of the Original

The remastered version of Darksiders has finally launched on Steam, and you may not have to pay a dime to play it.

THQ Nordic announced the release of Darksiders: Warmastered Edition today on Steam, where it’s priced at $20, as previously indicated. However, it revealed that anyone who owns the original version of Darksiders on Steam will receive Warmastered Edition in their library for free. If you qualify, you should be able to simply restart Steam to find the updated game waiting to download.

For those who don’t own the original game but are interested in this version, Warmastered Edition is on sale for just $4 right now. Alternatively, the franchise pack, which includes Warmastered Edition, Darksiders II‘s remaster (the Deathinitive Edition), and Darksiders II’s soundtrack for $10. Both of these sale prices are available until this Friday, December 2.

Warmastered Edition was announced in July following a leak. It was slated for release in October, only to be pushed back a month. This version offers a number of visual improvements, including 4K support on PC.

The freebie offer comes as another goodwill measure from THQ Nordic, which gave away an updated version of Titan Quest in September. That move came in the wake of the company’s decision to revive the THQ brand.
