Rocket League Developer Says No Plans for Sequel

Sales have now reached 10.5 million copies.

Rocket League developer Psyonix has confirmed it has no plans to make a sequel to its vehicular sports game anytime soon.

Instead, studio vice president Jeremy Dunham told Kinda Funny Games (via Game Informer) that Psyonix plans to continue to focus on supporting the current game’s healthy and growing community, as Rocket League has now sold 10.5 million and boasts a player base of nearly 29 million registered users.

While that latter figure includes Playstation Plus sales and split-screen players who may not have necessarily purchased the game, Dunham noted that seven million players were active this past month.

“Why would we want to take this huge community that we’ve already built, that’s still growing, and say, ‘What you’re playing now is going to be irrelevant in 12 months,'” Dunham explained. “Our goal was to keep making Rocket League better and better so that we don’t lose any of the people that want to play.”

He emphasized that Psyonix plans to continue to improve and add new features to the game for the foreseeable future. In fact, the game got Hot Wheels DLC last month, and a new mode called Dropshot – which is played with an “electrified” ball – will be added to Rocket League free of charge on March 22.
