Pokémon Go’s latest event extended after login mishaps

Pokémon Trainer Club members can feel a little less screwed

Pokémon Go’s Solstice Event will run an extra day, Niantic announced on Twitter. Originally set to end this afternoon, the developer has given all players an extra 24 hours catch some fire- and ice-type monsters.

The Solstice Event will now increase spawn rates for these Pokémon until 1 p.m. PDT on June 21. The extension seems to be in direct response to a major system bug that locked Android users out of the game for the last two days of the Solstice Event. Members of the Pokémon Trainer Club, a login system that’s been plagued with issues since launch, have been unable to sign into Pokémon Go since June 19.

A member of Niantic’s support team acknowledged the issue on Reddit earlier today, just before the Solstice Event’s original ending time.

“On June, 19 PDT, some Trainers using Pokémon Trainer Club reported issues accessing Pokémon GO on Android,” wrote a Niantic staffer named George. “Our team has been actively looking into this issue and working on a solution.”

His post noted that the fix would reach those affected before the day’s end. Players who have updated to the game’s latest version report that it’s patched the login problem; that update is currently rolling out nationwide.

The extra event time is a good salve for the login outage, which players lashed out about repeatedly on Reddit. But it’s time that Niantic just clear up these repeated login problems, many users said.

“We recognize that this has been an ongoing frustration and we are looking into long-term solutions to these login issues,” George added in his post. Hopefully that comes before the big Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago next month.
