Jurassic World sequel’s official poster gets the tagline, uh, wrong

So close!

Universal Pictures announced today that the name of the sequel to Jurassic World would be Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but it’s the movie’s tagline that people have taken issue with.

The tagline reads “life finds a way” and it’s a reference to a quote from Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm. The sentence comes up during a conversation with Henry Wu, one of the scientists working at Jurassic Park, who confirms that they control the chromosomes assigned to dinosaurs to prevent breeding. Malcolm, however, responds with the classic line “life, uh, finds a way.” You can see the magical moment in the video below.

The poster is clearly referencing the line, but many people have pointed out it doesn’t stay true to Goldblum’s delivery of said line — it omits the “uh,” which Malcolm used multiple time in different scenes. It became a charming part of his character.

This is a big moment for Dr. Malcolm. Goldblum confirmed in April that he would be joining the sequel, marking the first time in more than 20 years that the character would be on the big screen. The last time Goldblum played the character in a main Jurassic Park movie was in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, released in 1997.

The reactions to the tagline seem to speak volumes. Simply put, if you’re going to do something, you should try to do it right.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which will also see Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprise their roles from the original, will be released on June 22, 2018.
