What Remains of Edith Finch comes to Xbox One this month – Polygon

Narrative adventure game What Remains of Edith Finch comes to Xbox One on July 19. To celebrate, the team at Giant Sparrow has released a new trailer highlighting the quirkiness of the game in great detail.

In What Remains of Edith Finch, players take on the role of Edith herself as she engages with death and the memories of the family she once loved. The game has received high praise from many outlets, both within the games industry and in the mainstream media. Polygon itself gave the game a score of nine.

But the nature of the gameplay itself is hard to describe. The developer refers to it as a collection of playable short stories.

From our review:

To call What Remains of Edith Finch a game may be slightly disingenuous; it’s more of a storybook. You’ll open some journals, flip some switches and turn a key or two, but by and large you’re roaming the empty halls of the sprawling Finch house as the story is read to you. Edith learns about each character’s death by examining a note or diary left behind in their bedroom, the words spilling out on the screen as you take on the role of the doomed branch of her family tree.

The game is also available on PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and costs $19.99 on both platforms.

Giant Sparrow is known for unusual titles. Their 2012, The Unfinished Swan, turned lots of heads with its surrealistic setting and monochromatic palette.
