Dumbo is coming to a theater near you, in live action

Quite an earful

Disney has announced the release dates for a number of live-action movies today, including a remake of Dumbo.

Including cast members such as Colin Ferrel, Dany DeVito, Eva Green and Michael Keaton, Dumbo will hit theaters on March 29, 2019. Tim Burton addressed the crowd in a short video, from the engine of Casey Jr., the train that pulls the circus from town to town. Disney crew also showed a maquette used to model the CGI Dumbo for the live-action film.

D23, Disney’s bi-annual conference dedicated to all of the films coming out of Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios, focused on the studio’s live-action movies. Disney first announced it would be working on live-action versions of its popular animated classics last year. Along with Aladdin and Dumbo, Disney will also be producing live-action versions of The Lion King, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh (called Christopher and based on the life of Christopher Robin) and James and the Giant Peach.

The next live-action movie will be Mulan, which is being directed by Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife) followed by The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau. Favreau also directed the live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book, which was met with critical acclaim.

Disney has confirmed it has no intention on slowing down its live-action adaptations any time soon and currently has more than 15 projects in development set to be released over the next decade.
