Blizzard has announced that reporting and penalty system improvements for Overwatch on PC are incoming.

On a Battle.net blog post, Blizzard said that increased penalties will be issued in response to verified reports of bad behaviour in the game.

“In Overwatch, that means anything from abusive chat, harassment, in-game spam, match inactivity (being intentionally AFK), and griefing,” reads the post.

Players who take part in these activities will be silenced, suspended, or banned, effective immediately.

Blizzard also announced more long-term efforts to improve the Overwatch in-game community.

“Over the next several months, we have plans to make additional improvements based on your feedback, including scaling competitive season bans, a notification system that will alert you when a player you’ve reported is actioned, and functionality that will allow us to more aggressively penalize players who attempt to abuse the in-game reporting tool”.

Blizzard also addressed the lack of reporting options for Overwatch console players, and said that internal testing is currently taking place to implement similar reporting options as currently available on PC to the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game.

All versions of Overwatch are about to add a new character to the fray, Doomfist. Here’s why he’s Overwatch’s first proper villain, and why that’s a good thing.
