The beloved strategy game, now open to everyone
StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, one of Blizzard Entertainment’s most popular games, is becoming a free-to-play game. Company CEO Mike Morhaime announced the news during BlizzCon 2017’s opening ceremony, which streamed live from Anaheim, California today.
On Nov. 14, players will be able to play the entire Wings of Liberty campaign at no cost. If you already own that content, you will receive Heart of the Swarm at no additional cost.
The real-time strategy game first launched in 2010 for Windows and Mac. It’s a sequel to the original, still-played StarCraft, which launched back in 1998. It soon became the fastest selling RTS ever after release and has shipped more than three million copies.
BlizzCon kicked off today and will run through the end of the weekend. This is the eleventh iteration of the fan event, and Polygon will be reporting live from the ground throughout. Check out our storystream for more.
