Skyrim is the first third-party game to allow video capture on Nintendo Switch

Bethesda is paying attention to Switch fans

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is now the first third-party game to allow video capture on the Nintendo Switch.

A patch for the game, referred to as Update 1.1, added the new functionality on Nov. 16. Now players can use the Switch’s Capture button to record in-game clips. Bethesda issued no formal statement, but did mention the feature on its development blog.

Skyrim joins several other Nintendo first-party games in adding video capture functionality. Those include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms and Splatoon 2.

The video capture feature itself is relatively new. It was added to the console in the October update, referred to as 4.0.0. When users press and hold the capture button on the left Joy-Con, the Switch will capture the last 30 seconds of gameplay and save it to the system’s album. Videos can be trimmed and posted to Facebook or Twitter right from the console.

Skyrim landed on the Nintendo Switch today, and so far the buzz is good. Our own Ben Kuchera said the game is “better than it has any right to be.”
