Destiny 2 servers are down for maintenance

Bungie is setting the groundwork for Curse of Osiris

Destiny 2 servers are down today for scheduled maintenance, likely to prepare for the upcoming expansion scheduled to release on Dec. 5, Curse of Osiris.

Scheduled maintenance is expected to start at at 8:00 a.m. PT and last until 2:00 p.m., and progress will be given on Twitter and at the Bungie website.

Today’s maintenance comes after a lengthy presentation where Bungie apologized to its community and promised an expanded slate of changes and reforms. Bungie is reeling from weeks of negative player feedback. Developers released a lengthy statement yesterday on their blog, detailing a wide variety of changes being prioritized for the game. Those updates are set to begin in December.

“Our team has been reading feedback and working on updates to improve the game,” said design director Luke Smith and game director Christopher Barrett. “We’ve also been reading some tough criticism about our lack of communication, and we agree we need to be more open.”

Today’s maintenance follows the cancellation of a planned livestream to promote the game’s upcoming expansion, Curse of Osiris. Dedicated players recently uncovered that Bungie was not being entirely transparent about the amount of experience points on offer, and outrage spoiled an otherwise unremarkable Thanksgiving weekend in-game.

As a result, the developers released an expanded list of improvements, along with the promise to stage the highest priority items with the Dec. 5 release of Curse of Osiris and in a weekly update on Dec. 12. Many other changes won’t be made until next year.

We will update this story throughout the day, and include information on patch notes as well as an alert when servers are back online.
