Watch the PlayStation Experience 2017 opening ceremony livestream

Sony kicks off PSX 2017 tonight

Sony’s annual PlayStation Experience event takes place in Anaheim, California, this weekend. This time, Sony’s kicking off the fan-focused expo in slightly different fashion, with a Friday night presentation that kicks off at 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET.

Here’s the official description of what the “PlayStation Presents” opening ceremony will entail:

In this opening presentation, PlayStation Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will provide an update to Early Bird attendees, introduce some special guests, and provide new game updates – along with a few surprises.

Sony’s low-key description of its PlayStation Experience opener — and its late start time — seem to indicate the night won’t be a rapid-fire series of new game announcements and trailers. Sony did plenty of that at this year’s E3 and Paris Games Week press events. Still, you never know what those “surprises” are going to be. Will we get some actual information on FromSoftware’s new teaser? Will Hideo Kojima stop by with a brand-new 20-minute trailer for Death Stranding? Is Intelligent Qube finally coming back? Hard to say. But we’ll be watching.
