PC gaming monitors offer a range of features that you just can’t find in a TV set, which is problematic if you want those options and a larger-sized display. Nvidia is looking to solve that issue with what it calls big format gaming displays, or BFGDs, which it formally unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show this week.
Nvidia has collaborated with several hardware manufacturers, including Asus, HP, and Acer, to produce the new 65-inch displays. These pack in almost everything you could want: 4K, HDR, and 120 Hz support with 1,000-nit peak luminance and DCI-P3 color gamut. It also offers two of Nvidia’s other proprietary technologies. This includes G-Sync, which, like AMD’s FreeSync, aims to eliminate screen tearing.
Additionally, Nvidia’s streaming tech, Shield, is built right into the display without the need for a separate unit. You’ll also get both the Shield remote and game controller, allowing you to stream games (or media through services like Netflix) directly to the display.
The first BFGDs are on display at CES this week, but unfortunately we don’t know exactly when you’ll be able to get your hands on them–or, more importantly, how much they’ll cost. Nvidia said BFGDs will go on sale sometime this summer, with specs and other details being announced closer to launch.
