First The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 Photos Offer A Look At Bloody Future

While the first season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale left with the fate of Offred (Elisabeth Moss) hanging in the balance, the first look at the new season of the series is making it pretty clear. Not only has Offred survived, but she’s getting bloody.

Hulu has released three photos from the new season of Handmaid’s Tale, which provide a shocking look at what’s to come, including a funeral for a handmaid. In the image, which you can see below, a number of handmaids gather in their funeral garb during a snowy memorial for one of their own. It’s not revealed who the fallen handmaid is.

Another image shows Offred with a defiant look on her face, covered in blood. She certainly doesn’t look injured, leaving fans to wonder whose blood that is. It should also have them questioning whether she’s still pregnant.

What is known about the new season, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, is that the series will begin to explore those who have been able to escape captivity. The Handmaid’s Tale will visit Colonies of those who have been exiled from Gilead, which can also be seen in the photos. The Colonies are made up of pieces of North America that are too polluted or contaminated for the general public to live in, which doesn’t sound good.

Still, overall, the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale remains a mystery. Given that Season 1 adapted the Margaret Atwood novel the show is based on in full, Season 2 is exploring new territory. With Atwood helping guide the series as a consulting producer, though, it should be interesting to see where the world goes from here.

The second season of The Handmaid’s Tale, which was one of GameSpot’s top TV shows of 2017, arrives on Hulu in April.
