PS4 Firmware Update Offers Supersampling – at a Cost

Share.

This had beta be good.

Members of Sony’s PS4 system software beta have shared details of update 5.50, which adds a supersampling option for PS4 Pro consoles.

Details of the update were posted on Reset Era, but Sony has warned frame rates can be adversely affected.

“Supersampling Mode can improve the image quality of some games on a TV with 2K resolution or lower. Results may differ depending on the games. In some games, image quality may not improve, or the frame rate may change,” read the notification in a screenshot posted on the forum by a member of the beta.

Some PS4 Pro titles – like Horizon: Zero Dawn – already utilise supersampling to render images at 4K and shrink them down to 1080p. The update allows a similar solution for a number of other titles for players with PS4 Pro consoles who don’t own a 4K TV.

Additionally, The Sixth Axis reports games in your library will now be split into those purchased through the PS Store and those downloaded as part of your PS Plus membership, as well as letting you hide content like betas and demos.
