EA No Longer Has PGA Tour License

You won’t find Rory McIlroy PGA Tour on digital storefronts as of today.

PGA Tour is no longer licensed to EA, as Canadian developer, HB Studios, announced the addition of the PGA Tour to its upcoming title The Golf Club 2019.

After ending its partnership with Tiger Wood in 2013, EA’s golf franchise took a year hiatus, returning with Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. The publisher has now lost the license altogether, although PGA Tour’s senior director of licensing told GolfChannel.com that the “long-term successful partnership” with EA ended amicably.

EA’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tour wasn’t a great comeback for the series following Woods’ departure, with poor reviews all around. We called it a “disappointing golf game that just barely manages to make the cut,” in our review. The game is being removed from digital storefronts for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as of today, reports Pasta Padre.

HB Studios The Golf Club 2019 is launching in August for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The PGA Tour deal is reportedly a multiyear agreement.

“We are absolutely ecstatic and proud to be an official licensee of the PGA Tour, one of the most prestigious sports organizations in the world,” said Alan Bunker, CEO of HB Studios.

“This further validates that HB Studios has the number one golf video game on console and PC platforms. With the inclusion of PGA Tour content and the support of this fantastic organization, it will elevate our game even higher and provide our users with an even more authentic video game golfing experience.”
