World of Warcraft’s development team said they made a mistake barring trading to begin with
In a recent developer Q&A for World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, game director Ion Hazzikostas announced that players will be able to trade the new Azerite gear with one another come Aug. 28. Players were previously barred from ever trading Azerite pieces, leaving them locked to the player that originally received them.
Hazzikostas revealed that the development team had originally believed that Azerite pieces were too complicated to be tradable, and feared players would regret trading them. However, the team has now realized that getting a piece of Azerite gear and not being able to trade it to a friend if they need it feels far worse than giving something useful away.
Starting with the next weekly reset, Aug. 28, players will be able to trade Azerite gear with one another. But like most pieces in World of Warcraft, players will only be able to trade something if it isn’t an upgrade i.e. if they have a piece in that slot that is of an equal or higher item level.
The new Azerite armor system applies traits and abilities in tiered rings to armor pieces. While not particularly interesting at the moment, these pieces can add significant upgrades to player’s defensive abilities for tanks, or output for healers and damage dealers. This new change will also allow players to more effectively carry friends and guild members through dungeons before the Uldir raid is released on Sept. 4.
