ROH’s Flip Gordon Talks Death Before Dishonor PPV And Winning All In’s Battle Royale

Flip Gordon is a name Ring of Honor fans have quickly become familiar with. Through his appearances on the wrestling program, on “Being the Elite,” and recently at All In, he’s made a name for himself as a charismatic and talented performer.

On September 28, Gordon will be teaming with Colt Cabana to take on Bully Ray and Silas Young in a Tables Match at the Death Before Dishonor PPV. The show will take place at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET, airing live from the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While the tension between the four men stems from Bully Ray and Silas Young’s recent attacks on Ring of Honor stars, the feud started back at All In, when Gordon–who had been disguised as a luchador–eliminated Ray during the Over Budget Battle Royale.

Speaking with GameSpot, Gordon explained that this battle is about standing up for yourself. “I think it’s just one of those things where you keep picking on people, you keep picking on people, those people are going to eventually stick together,” he explained.

While many have seen Gordon’s work in the ring, there is a whole other side to the wrestler that will be revealed at Death Before Dishonor. “They don’t know everything I can do,” Gordon said. “I haven’t showed everything I can do yet. They’ve never seen me in a tables match. They’ve never seen me in a hardcore match. Nobody knows what I am capable of, including Bully and Silas. So, come this weekend, you’re going to see a different side of Flip Gordon. I’m not scared. I’m not intimidated by nobody. I’m going to step in there, I’m going to step in there with Colt Cabana, my tag team partner, and we’re going to go to war.”

The story of Flip Gordon really started heating up prior to All In, the largest independent wrestling show to date, put together by Cody Rhodes and Nick and Matt Jackson. Leading up to the event, Gordon appeared on the YouTube series “Being the Elite” where his whole storyline revolved around getting booked for All In. The series made it seem like there wasn’t a spot for him, so when Gordon appeared in the Over Budget Battle Royale, it was a very welcomed surprise. “I think there were so many different things that could’ve happened,” explained Gordon. “And I think when it came down to it, when it came down to a full card, that’s just what made the most sense, from a story standpoint.”

Gordon appeared in the match in a fully luchador costume, disguised from the audience, but the key component to his appearance was a surprise to Gordon when he arrived at the venue. “Somebody else made the costume, and I actually didn’t see the costume or try on the costume until I was snuck into the building. It was very scary, because I’m like, ‘I hope it fits.’ Same thing with my actual gear. I didn’t get my actual gear for my match [later in the evening] against Jay Lethal until the day of, as well. That is always scary, because I’m like, ‘Oh, man. I hope it fits.’ I have the same gear lady, Jolene out of Florida, and she’s amazing, so I don’t know why I worry. Every time, it’s perfect. But I always just stress getting stuff the day of the show.”

The most memorable moment from the All In pre-show, titled Zero Hour, came when Gordon removed his mask, getting a giant pop from the crowd. “Oh, man, it was surreal,” Gordon recounted. “I remember everybody telling me, ‘Don’t rip it off right away. You got to give it that little second, and then rip it off.’ I remember just them saying, ‘When you rip it off, don’t throw them out right away. Give it that moment. You have to soak it in.’ I remember just, as soon as I took the mask off, I just remember seeing everybody’s hands go up in the air with excitement. It was so hard not to get excited too because you’re in the moment. Then, next thing you know, I threw [Bully Ray] over and won the Battle Royale.

“Honestly, it’s an experience I’ll never forget. That was the best thing in my career this far. So amazing. It’s so surreal still, to this day. I’ve seen it back one time. I saw videos. But I actually got to watch the Battle Royale, and everything, on WGN for the first time this past week, and it’s still so surreal.”
