Yooka-Laylee could be getting a spin-off comic, with Dreamprism Press launching a Kickstarter campaign for Yooka-Laylee and the Kracklestone tomorrow, October 17.
Written and illustrated by Dreamprism’s D.M. Cumbo with developer Playtonic’s blessing, the target of $40,000 of funding will help the creator complete the 120-page graphic novel. Set after the game, the new story sees the chameleon and bat duo entering a new tome world in a race against Dr. Quack to grab an artifact rumoured to grant invincibility.

The Kickstarter will run until Friday November 16, with rewards to ship in June 2019. A digital edition is offered for a $15 pledge, a hand-sewn hardcover at $30, a Kickstarter-exclusive edition at $50, and the limited Grand Tome Collector’s Edition at $75.
D.M. Cumbo was previously an artist for Insomniac Games, working on Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive, before setting up Dreamprism in 2014. This project is two years in the making, and will be the first in a ‘Game Legends’ line of adaptations for the publisher.
In a press release, Cumbo said: “I’ve had a blast writing and a drawing a new story for Yooka and Laylee. The book blends the game’s spirit of playful exploration and character-driven storytelling. The Playtonic Games crew worked on a lot of the games I loved as a kid, so it’s pretty surreal to now have the chance to work with their characters.”
Playtonic itself is currently focused on game development, but you may remember its own success with a Kickstarter, when Yooka-Laylee broke the crowdfunding platform’s records.
