Epic Games, the North Carolina-based game developer behind Fortnite, is expanding its operations to a new part of the world. The company is opening an Australia/New Zealand office, GI.biz reports. The new division will be headed up by Tony Reed, who previously served as the CEO of the Game Developers Association of Australia; he held that position since 2009.
There are no further details about Epic Games ANZ; we don’t know yet if it will be a development studio or a publishing division, or something else, but Reed said there will “a lot of news” regarding Epic’s plans for Australia and New Zealand coming soon. Reached for comment, a representative for Epic’s headquarters in America declined to comment.
Epic’s corporate headquarters and main development studio is in Cary, North Carolina. The studio also owns Infinity Blade studio Chair Entertainment in Salt Lake City, Utah, while it also has outsourcing divisions in other places across the world such as Shanghai.
Fortnite gets nearly constant updates, so it makes sense that Epic would be looking to expand to more parts of the world to help the company have more of a global footprint.
Epic Games created the Gears of War franchise, before selling it to Microsoft. The company’s newest game, Fortnite, is one of the world’s most popular games right now. Epic will join a number of other big developers who have a presence in Australia, including Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Microsoft, PlayStation, Activision, Bandai Namco, and others.
