As an additional surprise, HBO also treated fans to a short trailer, which featured the most footage we have seen so far of the show’s final season. Just like every Game of Thrones trailer over the last couple of years, this one is full of extremely brief shots, though these paint a clear picture of what’s to come: a full-blown Stark reunion.
Thankfully, we know even more about season eight thanks to a recent Entertainment Weekly set visit and the first footage to come out of the new season. The first episode looks like it will open with a tense meeting between Sansa Stark, who’s currently in-charge of Winterfell, and Jon and Daenerys, who are returning from their disastrous trip to the wall. When Sansa is asked to swear allegiance to Dany, tensions run high. For now, that’s all the real concrete information we have.
While this isn’t much to go on, the good news is the premier is only a few months away. For all the rest of our questions and theories about the final season of Game of Thrones to be answered, we’ll have to wait until it comes back on April 14 when it will air on HBO and simultaneously go live on HBO GO and HBO NOW.
