There are only six fighters currently known in Mortal Kombat 11.

Originally introduced in MK 2, Baraka is a Tarkatan warrior with two long blades extending out of his forearms.

Cassie is the daughter of Johnny Cage, and perhaps the only character whose name makes a hard “C” sound and isn’t spelled with a “K”.

A brand new character to the franchise, Geras‘ origin is unknown, though he is known to serve Kronika. He can shift time, experiencing it at faster or slower speeds than mortals, and his physical weapons manifest out of sand and stone.

Originally the princess of Edenia, the daughter of Sindel now rules the Netherealm alongside Revanent Liu Kang. Note that Kitana has only been referred to and not actually seen in gameplay.

After having been killed in Mortal Kombat 9, then resurrected by Shinnok in Mortal Kombat 10, we see two versions of Kung Lao – a “normal” version and a revenant (undead) version – facing off in one of the trailers for MK11.

Apparently the chief antagonist of the MK11’s story, Kronika’s quest for power requires her to alter the timelines distorted during the events of MK9 and Mortal Kombat X.

Much like Kung Lao, Liu Kang seemingly met his end in MK9 and we met a Revanent Liu Kang at the end of Mortal Kombat X who was now ruling the Netherealm alongside Kitana.

While Raiden has long been a force for good in the world of Mortal Kombat, the events of Mortal Kombat X and the reveal trailer for MK11 show us a much darker version of the God of Thunder. This is potentially due to the process of purifying the Jinsei Chamber in Earthrealm’s Sky Temple from elder god Shinnok’s dark energy.

Scorpion has appeared in every Mortal Kombat since the original arcade game. Two versions of Scorpion are seen in the reveal trailer, perhaps hinting at either alternate character skins or a multiverse crossover.

Defeated at the end of Mortal Kombat 9 (and, like, every other MK game ever), Shao Kahn is a pre-order bonus fighter. It can be inferred that he is still alive in an alternate timeline, which enables him to appear in the character roster.

Sonya Blade returns for the 11th time in MK11, and is played by UFC champion Ronda Rousey.

Returning for the first time since appearing as DLC for Mortal Kombat 9, Skarlet‘s attacks focus on blood magic.

The infamous leader of the Lin-Kuei returns to battle evil (or perhaps good) alongside the other Earthrealm kombatants.
