Tips and Tricks

We’ve collected Tetris 99 Tips and Tricks from our best players. Tetris skills can’t really be taught (practice!), so we’ll try to focus on tips specific to Tetris 99 on this page.
Learn to Use T-Spins[edit]
You get the most bang for your blocks with T-spins. T-spin Single sends your target 2 lines. T-Spin Double sends over 4 lines. A T-Spin Triple sends over 6 lines. Back to back T-Spins Triples are an excellent way to send blocks out.
Full Clears[edit]
Learning how to do a full clear is nice tool to have in your arsenal. They give you 10 lines to send out making it the best attacks in any Tetris game.
Targeting System Explained[edit]
You have the ability to select any target you want with the left joystick but Tetris 99 allows the game to choose for you with 4 group attack options:
- Random – Target random players.
- KO – Target people nearing the top of their screen about to die.
- Attacker – Counter attack people targeting you
- Badge – Attacks players with the most kills (badges).
Follow the flow of the game and pick accordingly. If you notice there a lot of players that are almost knocked out, flick the right stick upwards before a big combo. KO’d targets those who are closest to being knocked out giving you an opportunity to few KO’s yourself. If you notice you’re getting targeted by lots of players, switch your mode to attackers and start sending over your trash blocks to them.
Pay Attention to the Color of the Sidebar[edit]
When players send blocks to your screen, the left side bar will fill with blocks of different colors (Grey, Yellow, and Red). They act as a timer to let you know how much time you have before they populate your game window. Knowing how much time you have to counter them is key.
Don’t Panic[edit]
Panicking when the game gets fast is an easy way to lose. The blocks may be dropping fast but the game is very forgiving in allowing you to rotate a block and moving it to where you need it to be. So the blocks might look it drops instantly but you have plenty of time to spin it into place. Keep your cool and keep spinning.
