Disney confirmed its streaming service Disney Plus will launch on Nov. 12 in the U.S., Canada and The Netherlands, with other countries to follow. They company also confirmed the devices that the streaming service will be available on upon launch.
Previously, Disney had announced that the service would be offered in most major global markets within two years of its launch. It is now confirmed that Disney Plus will launch on Nov. 12 in Canada and the Netherlands, the same day it launches in the United States. While in the United States, Disney Plus is priced at $6.99 per month or $69.99 a year, in Canada, the service will be $8.99CAD or $89.99CAD a year. In the Netherlands it will be €6.99 per month or €69.99 per year. Disney Plus will also come to Australia and New Zealand the following week on Nov. 19, where it will be priced at $8.99AUD per month or $89.99AUD per year, and $9.99NZD per month or $99.99NZD per year.
Disney also confirmed the platforms that Disney Plus would be available on at launch. The robust list includes: desktop web browsers, Android mobile devices, Android TV, Chromecast, iPads, iPhones, Apple TV, PlayStation 4, Roku players, Roku TV, and Xbox One.
Disney Plus is Disney’s aggressive foray into the direct-to-consumer market. Not only will it eventually boast the entire Disney animated motion picture library, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars films, but it will also host new original Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, the first ever live-action Star Wars show, and a trove of other original content. With Disney primed to take control of Hulu, the company is offering a bundle of ad-free Hulu, Disney Plus, and ESPN Plus for $12.99 a month.
