Remember that time she met Aaron Carter?
May the words of Lizzie McGuire ring forever true: “Of course it’s a good idea! I came up with it!”
According to Deadline, Younger star Hilary Duff is set to return to the role that made her a famous face of the 2000s after Disney Plus launches later this year. Duff will again play Lizzie McGuire in a new streaming series spearheaded by original showrunner Terri Minsky. More details are expected to break out of Disney’s Friday night D23 Expo panel focused on Disney Plus.
The new series will be a direct sequel to the 2001 Disney Channel sitcom, and find Lizzie making it as a 30-year-old in New York City. As in the original, an animated version of Lizzie will pop up to externalize the internal struggle. If she mounts a Millennial imprint at Empirical Publishing, worlds really will collide.
In 2003, Minsky apparently pitched a follow up ABC series that would have focused on a teenage Lizzie. That never happened, but now Duff’s getting her second shot with the Disney Plus series, which currently does not have a debut date.
