Two PlatinumGames’ action games will be re-released for modern consoles

PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta and Vanquish are getting remastered, according to a series of game listings from Microsoft. The two action games, originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will be re-released for Xbox One (and presumably PlayStation 4) with support for 4K resolution and 60 frames per second visuals.

The two games will also arrive in a 10th Anniversary Bundle, according to Microsoft’s website. Both remasters and the Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle will be released on Feb. 18, 2020, store listings say.

Sega has not officially announced the remasters, but the publisher previously re-released both games on PC via Steam.

Bayonetta, directed by Hideki Kamiya, was originally released in Japan in October 2009, and came to North America and Europe in January 2010. It was later ported to Wii U, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch. Bayonetta tells the story of an Umbra Witch who “rises from the depths after half a millennium in slumber with no recollection of her mysterious past,” and who uses an arsenal of weapons — including her magical hair — to defeat her foes.

Vanquish, directed by Shinji Mikami, was released worldwide in October 2010. The PS3 and Xbox 360 game was later ported to Windows PC. The third-person sci-fi shooter takes place on a space colony called Providence which has been overtaken by enemy forces. As DARPA agent Sam Gideon, players infiltrate Providence using the BLADE, a suit powered by transforming weapons.
