Star Wars Rogue One’s New Imperial Droid Looks Like Darth R2-D2

The Star Wars spinoff Rogue One is now less than four months away, and new characters are being steadily revealed. The latest addition to the Star Wars universe is a C2-B5, an Imperial droid who looks very much like an evil R2-D2. He was unveiled on this week’s episode of The Star Wars Show web series–check him out below, via the official Star Wars Facebook page:

The show revealed that C2-B5 is part of the same family of Astromech droids as R2-D2. His specific role in Rogue One is unknown, but Star Wars Show host Peter Townley mentions that Imperial droids often have their memories wiped to ensure their loyalty to the Empire.

C2-B5 isn’t the only new droid that will appear in Rogue One. In July, details of the towering K-2SO were revealed. Performed in a motion-capture suit by Alan Tudyk, K-2SO is a plain-speaking droid who, despite being on the side of the Rebellion, is described as "the antithesis of C-3PO."

Two new trailers for Rogue One have appeared in the past month. The first debuted during the Rio Olympics, while the second was an international teaser that contained footage not seen in the earlier trailer.

Rogue One hits theaters on December 16, 2016, directed by Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards. The movie stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen.
