Star Wars Rogue One Lead Discusses Reshoots, Was Reportedly Paid Seven Figures

A fascinating, in-depth feature on Felicity Jones, the lead in this year’s Star Wars: Rogue One sheds some light on the film’s much-discussed reshoots and reveals how much she was reportedly paid for her role. This comes by way of a story from The Hollywood Reporter today.

On the subject of the reshoots, Jones, like Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy before her, downplayed their significance. "Obviously when you come to the edit, you see the film come together and you think, ‘Actually, we could do this better, and this would make more sense if we did this,’" she said. "I’ve done it so many times. I mean, you wouldn’t just give your first draft on this story, would you?"

Kennedy is also quoted in the story, saying reshoots are par for the course in movie-making. It’s become something of a storyline for Rogue One‘s production, she said, "because it’s Star Wars." The Rogue One reshoots were planned from the beginning and are "nothing usual," Kennedy explained.

Jones plays Jyn Erso, a member of the rebellion who is on the daring mission to steal the plans to the Death Star. According to the report, she’s being paid a seven-figure sum for the role, which represents her biggest payday yet. Jones also appeared in The Theory of Everything, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Like Crazy. No other Rogue One castmember reportedly received a salary in the mid-six-figure range.

Rogue One is the first Star Wars spinoff film. It follows last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was a huge hit, bringing in $2.068 billion worldwide to become the third highest-grossing film in history. Disney CEO Bob Iger told THR earlier this year that Rogue One is an "experiment of sorts," while he said on an earnings call that it’s not expected to make as much money as The Force Awakens.

Rogue One also stars Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen. It arrives in theaters on December 16, 2016.

DICE is releasing a Rogue One-themed expansion for Star Wars Battlefront called Rogue One: Scarif. The DLC comes out this holiday; though a release date has not been announced, a launch near Rogue One‘s theatrical debut seems likely.
