E3 2017: Wolfenstein 2 Reveal Trailer Breakdown

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Is Real

After hints and rumors, Wolfenstein 2 was finally revealed at Bethesda’s E3 2017 press conference. Bethesda had several things to show off, but the Wolfenstein announcement was the highlight. We saw quite a bit of gameplay alongside cinematics.

As a result, we actually learned quite a bit about the game from this first video. We broke down the trailer to take a closer look at what you might’ve missed!

The video started with a short, tone-setting clip in the style of old, 1950s-era sitcoms. A giant Panzerhund named Liesel makes an appearance.

Continuing the tone setting, the video also featured a game show called "German… or Else!" There’s not much better for a game set in Nazi-occuped America.

BJ Blazkowicz’s love interest from Wolfenstein: The New Order, Anya, is pregnant with twins. That doesn’t stop her from stabbing someone in the video.

The Nazi officer, Frau Engel, returns to The New Colossus. She’s just as terrifying as in the first game.

The New Colossus takes place in Nazi-occupied America, and it’s certainly seen better days. Buildings are burning and it generally looks in a state of disrepair.

There’s nothing more American than an alligator farm. Sadly, this one’s been replaced with a massive Nazi compound.

Racist, extremist factions find common ground in the video, as the KKK and Nazis are seen talking amicably together.

There’s little that’s more unsettling than a Nazi official playing friendly, and this one does it very well. A sketch of Blazkowicz hangs ominously in the background as the Nazi asks for his ID papers.

Crazy robotic machines are, of course, making a return, and this flying machine is particularly ferocious.

BJ Blazkowicz has a power suit, and it includes an extremely boxy helmet that doesn’t appear to have eye holes.

In spite of its apparent lack of eye holes, it is bullet-proof, protecting Blazkowicz from a point-blank shot to the head.

In the video, we are introduced to a resistance leader, who unfortunately does not have great control over his prosthetic arm.

Another resistance leader challenges Blaskowicz to a drinking competition, which he readily accepts. They proceed to aggressively imbibe whiskey while bullets fly in the background and one stoic clarinet player continues to play.

It’s a Panzerhund rodeo in The New Colossus as Blaskowicz attempts to tame one.

He’s successful and is later shown careening through the streets on the back of one of the robotic beasts.

Dual-wielding weapons is back, and now Blaskowicz can handle two different types of weapons at the same time.

The last scene is quite the finale: faced with fighting Nazis, this man drops acid and proceeds to hallucinate colorful creatures. If this plays into the story or gameplay in any way, The New Colossus is going to be very interesting.
