Destiny 2’s next raid comes with some Power Level changes

Enter the Crown of Sorrow on day one

Bungie recently revealed that Destiny 2: Season of Opulence will go live on June 4. While many of the activities remain a mystery, the studio did drop some important information regarding Destiny 2’s newest raid.

Crown of Sorrow will go live only a few hours after Season of Opulence. Normally players have several days to prepare for the world first race, but Crown of Sorrow will demand a different kind of preparation. The raid goes live at 7 p.m. Eastern, six hours after the season starts.

Bungie also revealed the recommended Power Level for day one players to compete. The raid will start at 715 Power — 15 above the current maximum — scaling up from there.

Based on the teaser image Bungie paired with the announcement, it looks like Season of Opulence and the new raid will indeed take place on The Leviathan — the same location as Destiny 2’s first raid.

Bungie also revealed that they’re slowing down power leveling. Players who’ve been hoarding Last Wish raid keys — a way to gain a lot of powerful pieces of raid loot very quickly — won’t be able to use them until after the first team completes Crown of Sorrow. Bungie is disabling both Last Wish and Scourge of the Past raids until after the world first race is over.

Bungie is also reducing the Prime Attunement buff on day one — which has a random chance to award players with a powerful piece of gear from any activity. When Season of Opulence drops, every character will only have two stacks of the buff. Players will start gaining the buff like normal on the second day of the season.

Other power leveling methods will also be cap out at 700. All of this is presumably to stop players from hitting the Power cap before the raid releases, which is what happened in Scourge of the Past.

Bungie will reveal more details about Crown of Sorrow and Season of Opulence’s other activities as we get closer to June 4.
