Pokémon Go raid guide: Armored Mewtwo counters, best movesets, and more

Time to grab one of the strongest Pokémon in the game

Armored Mewtwo is Mewtwo’s second form released in Pokémon Go. The armored version is a promotion for the upcoming movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, and is based off of the original armor we see on it in the first Pokémon movie.

You may think that this is just a costume for Mewtwo and the Armored version is basically the same as the original. In truth, Armored Mewtwo has way more defense and way less attack than standard Mewtwo, making it a little less valuable for raid teams. When fighting it though, its weaknesses are the same as the original Mewtwo.

There’s been no mention of a shiny version of Armored Mewtwo being available, but the files for the green variant do exist. It’s possible it won’t be catchable this time around, though.

To take on Armored Mewtwo, a psychic-type, capitalize on bug-, ghost-, and dark-type moves. We recommend the following:

  • Origin Forme Giratina with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Tyranitar with Bite and Crunch
  • Scizor with Bug Bite/Fury Cutter and X-Scissor
  • Gengar with Shadow Claw/Lick and Shadow Ball
  • Gyrados with Bite and Crunch
  • Houndoom with Snarl and Foul Play/Crunch

Armored Mewtwo might have Dynamic Punch as a charge move, so Tyranitar and Houndoom won’t last as long against it. But the other counters listed will work just fine.

Armored Mewtwo is a flashy Legendary and a great pick if you’re trying to fill the 150th slot in your Gen 1 Pokédex. While it’s not as useful as the original Mewtwo, who hasn’t been seen since last year, it’s still with getting a few while it’s active over the next few weeks.
