The Outer Worlds Science Weapons Location Guide: Shrink Ray, Mind Control Ray, And More

Weapons for Science!

Part of what makes The Outer Worlds so charming is that it leans heavily on cheesy sci-fi. In fact, there’s actually a questline called Weapons from the Void that has you scour the universe to net an arsenal of science weapons, which you can gain access after reading through some messages on a terminal in the Captain’s Quarters of your ship, The Unreliable. Once you initiate the quest, simply follow the waypoints that take you from one science weapon to the next; though your progress will halt if you haven’t made it to a planet where a specific weapon is on. Once you advance the story, the questline will eventually lead you to each of the weapons. It’s worth noting that it’s possible to find science weapons pinpointed later on in the questline even if you haven’t advanced past the one it’s currently telling you to locate.

There are five science weapons in The Outer Worlds: the Prismatic Hammer, the Mandibular Rearranger, the Mind Control Ray, the Shrink Ray, and the Gloop Gun. Each have their own unique functionality that makes them useful in a firefight, or goofing off, or both. Below you can find out more details about their location, stats, and more. But if you want to see them in action, be sure to watch the gameplay in the video embed above.

In our review of The Outer Worlds, GameSpot editor Edmond Tran gave the game a 9/10 and said "I finished The Outer Worlds wanting more, eager to jump back into the world to see extra things. It’s not a short game, but it’s one packed with such a steady stream of wonderful characters to meet, interesting places to explore, and meaningful, multi-layered quests to solve, that it didn’t feel like there was any room to get tired of it. I wanted to rewind the clock and do everything in a completely different way. The Outer Worlds is consistently compelling throughout, and it’s a superb example of how to promote traditional RPG sensibilities in a sharp, modern experience."
